What Is Day Treatment?
Day treatment can come in the form of different programs, including partial hospitalization, outpatient, and intensive outpatient programs. These programs offer structured plans to help clients overcome their addiction, mental health, or co-occurring disorders without requiring them to stay at the facility 24/7. Day treatment typically happens as a way to continue care post-inpatient treatment, but it can be beneficial for clients who need flexibility.
A Structured Approach to Recovery
Despite not staying on campus, day treatment is still structured to keep you on track and accountable for your recovery goals.
No matter what program you are a part of, you receive a full schedule that works to keep you occupied with recovery to prevent relapse and distractions along the way. Staying focused on recovery is key, and we are here to help you achieve your goals with a structure that fits best into your life.
Why Choose Day Treatment at Red Rock Recovery Center?
At Red Rock Recovery Center, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs are flexible recovery options that still offer structure and support. We create personalized treatment plans so that every client is given the most effective care regardless of what program works best for them.
Holistic and Spiritual Support for Substance Use Disorder
Addiction recovery is not all about evidence-based therapy. Holistic support plays a major role in recovery as it is essential to heal all areas of your life physically, mentally, and spiritually. In intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs, we incorporate holistic services into everyone’s treatment plans. Our location in Colorado allows you to disconnect from the busy, chaotic city life and ground yourself in a serene environment where you can focus on yourself. Creating space in your external environment paves the way to create space within.
Community, Connection, and Purpose: Our Guiding Values
“Where there is unity, there is always victory.”
Even without staying on campus 24/7, we still prioritize community in day treatment. Group therapies and services are essential in intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs. Connecting you with others in recovery and with alumni is motivational in the recovery journey. Together, we can all heal, and building relationships and strengthening connections allows us all to grow together.
Key Features of Our Day Treatment Program
Intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) are one of our day treatment programs located in Denver. We focus on positive psychology, which focuses treatment on how to live a healthy and fulfilling life. Clients also have access to other resources at Red Rock Recovery Center to ensure they are receiving the support they need. Medication-assisted therapy (MAT) is also available and run by a dual-certified addiction specialist psychiatrist.
Partial hospitalization programs (PHPs) offer six hours of clinical attention per week for four to eight weeks, depending on your needs. You participate in different therapies and activities in a highly structured setting. These programs do not require you to relocate, giving you the same flexibility and freedom as outpatient care but with the same intensive care as inpatient programs.
Comprehensive Substance Abuse Treatment
Support is here for you no matter what step of the recovery journey you are on. Some clients are comfortable with intensive treatment from the beginning, where IOPs or PHPs can come in handy. PHPs are also a great follow-up option after residential treatment and/or can serve as a prequel to IOPs.
Having treatment that is catered to your specific needs is also crucial. This is why we offer specific services for mental health IOPs, substance use disorder IOPs, and services all across the treatment timeline to assist with co-curring disorders.
Dual Diagnosis Support for Mental Health Challenges
Mental health challenges are often the root of substance abuse. Addiction can also cause the development of mental health disorders. When recovering from addiction, it is essential to address all concerns, including mental health complications. Dual diagnosis treatment helps clients heal on all levels to promote longevity of recovery.
Here, we help you identify addiction and mental health triggers so that you can develop healthy coping mechanisms using a combination of holistic and evidence-based therapies. Dual diagnosis treatment usually takes longer as it is complex, but treatment happens at a pace that is right for you. A longer amount of time also allows you to heal all areas of your life so that you leave treatment with confidence.
Evidence-Based Therapies: Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
DBT and CBT are some of the most common therapies in addiction and mental health disorder treatment. These evidence-based therapies are part of life skills training at Red Rock Recovery Center.
CBT helps clients recondition their minds. By acknowledging and rising above your negative thought process, you gain the ability to make healthy decisions that promote recovery and an improved lifestyle overall. While it is difficult to overcome, it is important to remember that you are not controlled by your negative feelings or experiences.
DBT is a type of CBT that focuses on emotional regulation. When coping with co-occurring disorders or severe mental health disorders, it can be challenging to not allow your emotions to control your decisions. DBT helps you make small changes for big results. You learn how to express your emotions in a productive manner, control your behaviors, and reconnect with others through improved communication skills.
The Benefits of Day Treatment
Aside from continuing progress made in the detox and inpatient phases of recovery, day treatment has a number of benefits that may make these programs right for you.
Flexibility and Accessibility for Working Adults
Day treatment is a flexible and accessible option for those with full-time jobs or household responsibilities. Recovery and treatment do not need to be overwhelming, and your life does not need to be put on pause. Our various treatment programs are designed to accommodate all situations, and day treatment can fit into your schedule without the stress.
Strengthening Coping Skills and Social Connections
Developing healthy coping skills encourages relapse prevention. In day treatment, your exposure to evidence-based and holistic therapies helps you develop healthy coping mechanisms that promote healthy behaviors. Turning to a productive or stress-relieving activity puts you in control of yourself, not allowing your emotions or thoughts to make decisions for you.
Connections and community are important in recovery. Clients often lose key communication skills, struggle with their relationships, or tend to self-isolate due to their addiction and mental health disorders. In day treatment, building connections with others is a priority. Here, we share our experiences to help one another and create friendships with those with the same recovery values.
Peer Support and Family Involvement in Recovery
Community goes beyond our staff. Peer support and family are also key parts of your support network. Being surrounded by those who are in recovery helps motivate you on your own journey, and by supporting each other, everyone rises above their addiction to create a fulfilling life. Support from your loved ones goes a long way as well, which is why we involve families in recovery. By developing a mutual understanding and supporting one another in family therapy, the family dynamic strengthens, and post-treatment life becomes less overwhelming with a solid support system right behind you.

What does a typical day look like in day treatment?
Red Rock Recovery Center uses the 12-Step model to foster self-inquiry, healing, and change.
In PHP, clients receive six hours of clinical care per day. With this highly structured setting, they participate in different activities and settings that take up the entire time to avoid clients dwelling on their withdrawal symptoms/cravings. Our community-based IOP focuses on individual counseling and group therapies in a goal-oriented manner. In both programs, you disconnect from the chaos of the outside world and focus on the therapies in front of you to promote healing before returning to your daily routine.
How does day treatment differ from outpatient rehab?
Day treatment is different from traditional outpatient rehab as outpatient programs involve you attending one or more types of therapy after leaving the facility. While it is similar to continuing care, outpatient rehab is a less hands-on approach to treatment for clients who are ready to take that next step. Rather than come back on campus for a few hours, outpatient services are usually shorter and are a good way to fully transition back into your regular routine.
Is day treatment suitable for everyone?
Day treatment is most suitable for clients in need of flexible treatment options. However, inpatient treatment programs are recommended for those coping with severe addiction and/or mental health disorders to start with. If you are a full-time worker, parent, or both, day treatment may best fit your schedule. However, it is important to understand your recovery needs for optimal results. Call us today to find out which treatment program is the right fit for you.
Recovery does not need to take up every second of your life, and often, full-time workers and parents cannot dedicate that amount of time from their days to accommodate residential treatment. Our day treatment program at Red Rock Recovery Center, (855) 218-7588, has you covered.
