How long does detox last?
Detox programs aim to support individuals through the withdrawal process. The duration of detoxification varies for each person but typically ranges from 4 to 10 days, based on medical needs. As the initial step in overcoming addiction, detox is not a replacement for the essential treatment programs or therapy that follow.
How long do withdrawal symptoms last?
Alcohol: Withdrawal symptoms can start to manifest within a few hours after the last drink, reaching their peak intensity between 24 and 72 hours. Delirium tremens, a severe form of withdrawal, typically arises 48 to 72 hours after heavy drinking ceases, lasting on average 3 to 4 days but potentially extending up to 8 days.
Short-Acting Opioids (e.g., heroin and some prescription painkillers): Symptoms of withdrawal from short-acting opioids usually appear 8 to 24 hours following the last use and generally persist for 4 to 10 days.
Longer-Acting Opioids (e.g., methadone): With longer-acting opioids like methadone, withdrawal symptoms may not begin until 2 to 4 days after the last dose. These symptoms typically subside within about 10 days.
Benzodiazepines (e.g., Xanax and Valium): Withdrawal from benzodiazepines often begins 1 to 4 days after stopping use, with the most severe symptoms occurring during the first two weeks. In some cases, protracted withdrawal symptoms can linger for months or even years without appropriate treatment.
What is the difference between withdrawal and detox?
The terms detox and withdrawal are not meant to be used interchangeably. However, they are connected. While the terms “detox” and “withdrawal” are related, they are not interchangeable. Detox refers to the process of the body eliminating drugs or other substances. It is not a form of treatment on its own but serves as the initial step in the recovery process. Withdrawal, on the other hand, describes the physical and mental symptoms that arise when a person stops or significantly reduces substance use. Detox often includes managing withdrawal symptoms, with detox programs specifically designed to provide support and relief during this challenging phase.
Can I detox at home?
Detoxing from drugs or alcohol is a crucial first step on the road to recovery, but it’s also one of the most dangerous stages, especially if not handled properly. Many individuals, perhaps driven by fear, shame, or financial concerns, tend to consider detoxing at home without professional help. While this might seem like a viable option, it comes with significant risks that can endanger your health and even your life.
Will my insurance cover detox?
Red Rock Recovery Center is contracted with many insurance companies and is an In-Network Treatment Provider. Feel free to submit your insurance policy information to begin the admissions process. An admissions representative will reach out shortly with benefit details. Red Rock Recovery Center is not currently contracted with Medicare plans.
Can I start treatment without detox?
Our Denver Drug Detox and Alcohol Detox Program in Colorado is the very first level of care that enables safe and effective withdrawal management. Once successful withdrawal management has been achieved, clients can more successfully engage in further treatment for drug and alcohol addiction.
