Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is not just “stress” but a legitimate, diagnosable mental health condition triggered by experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event.
While PTSD can be debilitating, it is treatable. Effective, evidence-based, trauma-informed care to reclaim one’s life is available at Red Rock Recovery Center.
There is no better setting than in Colorado’s renowned natural beauty to work through the internal turmoil and pain of PTSD. Red Rock Recovery Center, in our two locations near Denver, CO, offers PTSD therapies in a setting that promotes peace and resilience.
Therapeutic intervention soon after the trauma is critical for long-term outcomes since, with time, traumatic memories become indelible and resistant to treatment. Healing has three main elements:
The trauma-focused psychotherapies with the strongest evidence from clinical trials for PTSD are CPT, PE, and EMDR. Red Rock Recovery also employs holistic approaches.
This therapy focuses on the powerful, negative beliefs (“I am to blame”; “The world is unsafe”) that become stuck after trauma. CPT lessens the trauma’s impact and develops a more balanced understanding of the event and yourself.
PE works on the basis of a core principle: avoidance maintains fear. In a safe, gradual way, you will repeatedly confront trauma-related memories and situations you’ve been avoiding. This is done through exposure to images in which you revisit the memory in detail and in real-world practice. This lessens the impact of the memory as your brain learns to tolerate distress.
EMDR helps the brain process “stuck” traumatic memories that result in present-day symptoms. With the aid of a trained therapist, you briefly focus on the disturbing memory while they perform bilateral stimulation using side-to-side eye movements or tapping. It is thought this helps the brain’s information processing system reorganize the memory and store it with less emotional intensity, so it feels more like a past event.
Our trauma-informed program employs the above therapies as well as:
At Red Rock Recovery Center, we work closely with you to create a personalized treatment plan and cultivate a supportive environment that promotes your overall well-being.
Our trauma therapists will help you overcome PTSD and other trauma disorders by exposing you to healthy coping strategies, boosting your self-esteem and confidence in recovery, and adjusting your daily life to support your mental health.
Depending on your needs and resources, you can choose between residential treatment, Partial Hospitalization, or Intensive Outpatient Programs.
Our residential treatment facility (Basecamp) is located in Morrison, CO. We provide a safe, structured environment to live in, day and night, away from daily triggers. The typical duration is 30 to 90 days or longer. We offer personalized treatment plans for PTSD and addiction recovery in a substance-free environment.
Comprehensive treatment includes medical detoxification, individual and group counseling, behavioral therapies, and holistic wellness and experiential activities.
We focus on healing the underlying causes of addiction with training in practical life skills and relapse prevention techniques. 24/7 medical and therapeutic care in a supportive community prepares patients for a healthy, sober life.
We follow a 12-step model where skilled licensed addiction specialists help develop coping strategies using individual and group therapy as well as family involvement.
Wellness programming is an important component, as are various holistic therapies, such as mindfulness and other approaches that develop resilience and help manage relapse triggers
Our comfortable accommodations welcome everyone, including LGBTQ+ and non-binary patients.
At our Ascent facility in Lakewood, CO, we offer both the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Programs. While living at home, you attend the programs during the day. This offers more flexibility, especially if you are attending school or working.
PHP is often a step down from residential for those needing more structure and hours of care. Programs typically run 5 to 7 days per week, for 4 to 6 hours per day.
IOP allows you to live at home, providing a more flexible schedule and allowing you to maintain your normal lifestyle. It’s a step down from PHP but is a more intensive alternative to standard outpatient therapy. Sessions are usually held 3 to 5 days per week, typically 3 hours per day.
In both programs, expert care from dedicated professionals is combined with evidence-based therapy and a supportive community.
An integrated approach is most effective for treating co-occurring PTSD and substance use.
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) are the most effective evidence-based trauma-focused therapies. These are offered together with addiction counseling and skills training.
In these therapies, patients learn about and process the links between trauma symptoms and their use of substances as a coping mechanism. The goal is to process traumatic memories while building healthier coping strategies.
Other core parts of the program are medication-assisted treatment, peer support groups, and distress tolerance skills.
Veterans and first responders are dealing with unique occupational traumas. Trauma-informed substance use treatment is tailored to address moral injury, PTSD, and chronic stress. Addiction treatment recognizes substance use as a coping mechanism to deal with traumatic distress.
The program offers safety, trust, and peer support from those with shared experiences. Evidence-based therapies are integrated with addiction treatment and process trauma without re-traumatization.
This model values honor and resilience while helping individuals separate their identity from their trauma and addiction, creating a foundation for sustainable recovery and renewed purpose.
For patients, having their sense of dignity and autonomy respected with non-judgmental support is critical for success. Positive outcomes can flow from feeling heard and understood in a constructive therapeutic alliance.
Experiences in the community are a cornerstone of successful substance use treatment. Community experiences can present barriers such as stigma, inaccessible services, or a lack of aftercare support. Strong recovery communities and family involvement provide belonging and accountability.
Healing is not just clinical; it is a social process where both personal validation and a supportive, integrated community network are key to lasting recovery.

Red Rock Recovery Center was a beacon of hope during one of the darkest times in my life. From the moment I arrived, the staff treated me with compassion, respect, and unwavering support. They truly understood what I was going through and provided not just a place to heal, but the tools and guidance I needed to rebuild my life.
The program at RRR is structured yet deeply personal, offering a balance of therapy, education, and community that made all the difference in my recovery. They didn’t just help me get sober—they helped me rediscover myself, build resilience, and develop the confidence to move forward.
Now, a year later, I’m beyond grateful for the life I have today, and I owe so much of that to Red Rock Recovery Center. If you or a loved one is struggling and looking for a place that truly cares, I can’t recommend RRR highly enough. They don’t just offer treatment—they offer hope, healing, and a future worth fighting for.

I am grateful for Red Rock Recovery Center. My experience into the world of recovery was with much apprehension. The staff at the inpatient facility, though PHP and IOP were extremely understanding and helpful while I came to a real understanding of what addiction is and how it has affected my life.
If you are reading this for yourself or a loved one I can relate. I looked for every reason why I didn’t need recovery. I thought I could manage addiction on my own. With every reason I could imagine why I didn’t belong there were 10 reasons why I did.
The community of friends I have met through therapy and groups that RRRC supports outside of therapy are incredible.
The pressure of coming back to life after addiction has been low stress with so many fun activities.
I highly rate RRRC as a friendly, helpful and effective treatment center.

Nothing is like Red Rock. It was the best choice I’ve ever made regarding my addiction & recovery. Caring, professional staff (many whom are in long term recovery themselves and understand), comprehensive program, group & 1 on 1 therapy, and activities like yoga, hiking, and gym in a comfortable atmosphere in the beautiful, nature-filled Morrson/Conifer area. There 4 stage program changed my life. Detox, residential treatment, PHP, & IOP. And then there’s the excellent alumni program with tons of support through meetings, events & activities. If you’re committed to fighting an addiction, this is the place to go.

This program saved my life and every day gives me the tools and resources to make it a life I want to live. Words fall far too short of the gratitude I have for this program and everything they have done for me. So many resources, spectacular staff, refreshingly authentic care and love in this program. I’ve never felt so supported and secure and safe. From my first phone call on through to the present, it’s been nothing but exceptional. My sanctuary, my recovery cocoon and somewhere I’ll feel at home throughout my recovery journey and life. I feel confident now that my recovery and future has begun. A life of freedom and opportunity. I was hopeless, discouraged and desperate. I never have to feel that way again. Thank you RRRC~ FOREVER GRATEFUL

RRRC is an incredible rehab facility. I received amazing care all the way from in patient to outpatient treatment. All of the staff and nurses were so kind and understanding and willing to help with anything that I needed. The therapists were also very helpful and provided great insight into our sessions and were incredibly knowledgeable. RRRC really helped me to regain control over my life and be able to find a new path and direction to head into. I could not recommend this facility enough and the amazing staff you get to meet and work with. I had a really great experience with them!

Red Rock Recovery Center is so much more than an addiction treatment program. This program and the incredible staff have allowed me to find a sense of purpose and a tight knit community. The skills and coping mechanisms taught during group therapy are so vital to my recovery and I continue to use them every day outside of treatment. The staff provided constant support and guidance every step of the way and continue to even after completing the program. Their unwavering support, deep knowledge, and compassion made the daunting journey of sobriety feel genuinely achievable and worthwhile. The uncertainty on the road to recovery can be overwhelming and may seem unfeasible at first. For anyone who is struggling with these fears and looking for some semblance of hope and meaningful connections this is your place.
